Faced with harsh winters and a rocky, infertile soil, the innately industrious colonists spawned both active politics and ingenious products. The result has been a continuing series of revolutions, beginning with the "shots heard 'round the world" at Concord, Ma. on April 19, 1775. The US industrial revolution began in Waltham with the power looms of Francis Cabot Lowell. The high tech revolution started with Alexander Graham Bell's telephone in Boston. Most recently, the biotech revolution was seeded here with landmark research at MIT, Harvard and Clark. With this backdrop of revolution, Massachusetts has become famous for everything from baked beans and lobsters to Patriot missiles, the Super Bowl champion New England Patriot football team and the world champion Boston Red Sox. The products of MBTC embody the ingenious spirit of Massachusetts.
