Bowenite is the Rhode Island state mineral and comes from the Conklin Quarry in Lincoln, RI - the oldest quarry in the US. In 2004 after 300 years of operation the Conklin Quarry was allowed to flood, entombing the Bowenite forever. Rhode Island has opened the quarry to Sunapee Graniteworks of New Hampshire to handcraft what remains of this mineral into beautiful beads. The mineral is a very cool shade of green - reminscent of mint juleps.
