Patriots Day is an important state holiday in Massachusetts as well as in Maine, which was once a part of Massachusetts. The day commemorates the opening battles of the American Revolution fought on April 19, 1775 at Lexington and Concord. Since 1969, the holiday has been observed on the third Monday of April. Re-enactments of the revolutionary war battles are traditionally held on Patriots Day at Lexington Green and Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord. Boston Marathon by Thomas Rebek
